AMES, Iowa – Junior Grace Swoboda was named Big 12 Swimmer of the Week and freshman Katie Malm was named Big 12 Co-Diver of the Week on Thursday following their exceptional performances at the Seminole Fall Classic on October 9th & 10th.
Swoboda captured first place in all three breaststroke events. Along with these wins, she broke two school records and set three meet records.
In the 200 Breast, Swoboda broke the school record with a time of 2:11.18, surpassing Kasey Roberts' time that stood since the 2014-15 season. In the 100 Breast, she broke her own school record from last year finishing in 59.65 seconds. This is Iowa State's sole performance in the event with a time under one minute.
Malm had her second runner-up finish and a personal best on 1-meter at the Seminole Fall Classic, posting a 267.23. This is her second time on 1-meter this season with a score above NCAA Zone Standard. In addition, she placed third on 3-meter with a personal best of 254.93. The 3-meter format was a non-traditional list meaning 3 of the 6 performed dives could have a difficulty no higher than 2.4.
Swoboda, Malm, and the rest of the Iowa State Swimming and Diving team will compete in their second dual meet of the season on October 16th & 17th at Illinois.
