AMES, Iowa – Three members of the Iowa State women's basketball team were named to the College Sports Communications (CSC, formerly CoSIDA) Women's Basketball Academic All-District Team announced on Tuesday. Lexi Donarski earned the honor for a second-straight season, while Morgan Kane and Emily Ryan became first-time honorees.
All three advance to the Academic All-America ballot, with the CSC Academic All-America honorees being announced on Wednesday, March 15.
Donarski, a junior from La Crosse, Wisconsin, continues to be a stalwart for Iowa State on both sides of the floor. On offense, Donarski averages 12.3 points per game, having scored in double figures 16 times this season, including going over 20 four times. On defense, the defending Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year has lived up to her reputation, holding her primary guard on defense over 39 percent below their season scoring average (enters vs. Donarski 12.8 ppg, vs. Donarski 7.8 ppg). A marketing major, Donarski was an Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree in 2022-23.
Kane, a redshirt senior from West Jordan, Utah, continues to provide valuable minutes for Iowa State in her first player off the bench role. Having played in all 24 games this season, Kane posts 4.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in her 13.2 minutes per game. She is an efficient shooter at 61.9 percent for the season, and has gotten 40 percent off her rebounds on the offensive glass. A kinesiology and health major, Kane is a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree.
Ryan, a junior from Claflin, Kansas, continues to excel as Iowa State's floor general, having another strong season after being All-Big 12 First Team last year. She ranks second in the Big 12 and eighth nationally at 6.9 assists per game, dishing out at least five assists in 20 of 24 contests this year. She averages 11.0 points per game and ranks second in the country with her 93.0 free throw percentage. Her 5.3 rebounds is second on the team, with her having posted three points-rebounds double-doubles this season. A kinesiology and health major, Ryan was Academic All-Big 12 First Team in 2021-22.
To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50, be a sophomore academically and have a year-in-residence at their current school and have appeared in at least 50 percent of the team's contest.
Donarski, Kane, Ryan and the rest of the No. 20 Cyclones will be back in action at Oklahoma State on Wednesday. Tip between the Cyclones and Cowgirls in Stillwater will be at 6:30 p.m. on Big 12 Now.
