AMES, Iowa – Iowa State's Ashley Joens has been named to the Jersey Mike's Naismith Trophy Women's Player of the Year Midseason Team, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced on Tuesday. Joens continues to be omnipresent the national awards watch lists, with the Naismith recognition coming the week after she was named to the Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 and the Cheryl Miller Award Mid-Season Top 10.
From Iowa City, Joens leads the Big 12 and ranks 18th nationally with her 20.1 points per game. She has nine games with over 20 points on the season, including a pair over 30 with 33 against Columbia on Nov. 20 and 32 against then-No. 14 Oklahoma on Jan. 28. She ranks second in the Big 12 with her 9.1 rebounds per game, having recorded nine double-doubles on the season.
Joens has continued to write her name on many career landmarks, going beyond the borders for Iowa State women's basketball with her having secured 11 major career records for the Cyclones. She is two starts away from becoming the Big 12's career record holder for starts, having started all 147 of her career appearances for ISU. In addition, she is seven games played away from becoming the Big 12's career leader in games played, the record currently standing at 153. She ranks 29th in NCAA Division I Women's Basketball history with her 2,792 career points.
