No. 12 Cyclones Beat No. 35 Texas Tech on Senior Day

AMES, Iowa – No. 12 Iowa State defeated No. 35 Texas Tech, ending the weekend 2-0 and improving to 16-4 overall and 6-2 in conference play.
With just one match left to play in the regular season against West Virginia, the Cyclones sit a win behind Oklahoma State (7-2) in the league standings. The Cyclones would hold the tiebreak against the Cowgirls for seeding at the Big 12 Championships.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cyclones started off Senior Day strong, clinching the doubles point with wins on courts No. 2 and No. 3. It marked the 15th time in 20 matches this season that Iowa State has earned the doubles point.
With her win on court No. 3, this time alongside Sofia Cabezas, Miska Kadleckova sets a new school record for doubles wins in a season with 27, including wins over then ranked No. 11 and No. 54 ranked opponents.
Chie Kezuka was the first to finish for Iowa State on court No. 6. The senior went out on a high in her last regular season home match as a Cyclone, setting a new program record for career conference singles wins with 16, beating Arina Oreshchenkova, 6-4, 6-1.
Ange Oby Kajuru was next to finish with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 win on court No. 2 over No. 122 Avelina Sayfetdinova. It marks back-to-back ranked wins for Kajuru.
After battling hard in three sets, senior Thasaporn Naklo was defeated by Olivia Peet, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3).
Clinching the victory for Iowa State was junior Sofia Cabezas. She took on Metka Komac and came away with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win.
The Cyclones will be back in action Tuesday at 4 p.m. as they take on West Virginia in the final match of the regular season.
