The Series
West Virginia is a school that Iowa State has found success against. The Mountaineers are the only Big 12 school that the Cyclones have a winning record against all-time. The teams have faced off a total of 11 times and Iowa State leads the series 10-1. Most recently, head coach Boomer Saia and his team took down West Virginia, 4-0, in the opening round of the Big 12 tournament in April of 2022.
Last Time Out
The Cyclones are coming off of back-to-back ranked wins against No. 35 Texas Tech and No. 50 TCU. To read more about last weekend, click here.
Player to Watch
Ange Oby Kajuru wrapped up a 4-0 weekend against Texas Tech and TCU. In singles, she took down a pair of ranked opponents in No. 115 Mercedes Aristegui and No. 122 Avelina Sayfetdinova.
Kajuru, a sophomore, jumped into the programs top ten for conference regular season career singles wins, with 11. She also sits at 13 conference regular season career doubles wins, one victory shy from entering the top five in school history.
The Tokyo, Japan native has played 18 matches at the No. 2 singles spot this season and boasts a record of 15-3, including a record of 7-3 against ranked opponents in that time. Kajuru is also one of two Cyclones to be represented in the singles rankings for the entirety of the year, with her highest ranking being No. 51 on March 7.
Cyclone Tennis Quick Hit
Heading into its final regular season match against West Virginia, Iowa State sits at 6-2 in conference play, putting them at fourth place overall in the Big 12. A win would make Saia and his squad 7-2, tying Oklahoma State for third place overall in conference play, and the Cyclones own the tiebreak over the Cowgirls with their, 4-2, victory in March.
In the Rankings
The Intercollegiate Tennis Association's rankings have not changed from last week and the Mountaineers were not represented in those rankings, team or individual.
