No. 10 Cyclones Fall To No. 23 Oklahoma, 4-1

NORMAN, Okla. – No. 10 Iowa State tried to mount a valiant comeback, forcing a third set on three courts after dropping the first set, but fell to No. 23 Oklahoma, 4-1, Sunday afternoon.

The Cyclones fall to 14-4 overall and 4-2 in Big 12 action, while Oklahoma improves to 15-8 overall and 5-1 in league action.

The Sooners opened up a 3-0 lead after winning the doubles point and taking straight-set victories at No. 3 and No. 6.

ISU wouldn't go quietly, with Sofia Cabezas winning her second-straight decision with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Emma Staker at No. 5 singles.

Iowa State dropped the first set on courts one, two and four, but won the second set to force a deciding third on all three courts.

With Ange Oby Kajuru leading in the third set and Thasaporn Naklo early in her final set, OU's Sasha Pisareva outlasted Anna Supapitch Kuearum with a 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles to secure the win for the Sooners.

The Cyclones doubles team of Kajuru and Xinyi Nong earned a ranked doubles win by taking down OU's No. 17-ranked team of Layne Sleeth and Sasha Pisareva, 6-4, on the second court. But the Cyclones ended up dropping the doubles point for just the fifth time in 18 matches this season as OU won on courts one and three.

Iowa State returns to action Saturday at West Virginia as it looks to win a school-record fifth Big 12 match.
