OKLAHOMA CITY – Angelina Allen and Ellie Spelhaug were both named to the 2023 Phillips 66 Big 12 Softball Championship All-Tournament Team, the league announced following the championship game on Saturday afternoon.
Despite falling to top-seeded Oklahoma in the semifinals, the Cyclones placed the second-most athletes on the tournament team as both Spelhaug and Allen made the cut. Tournament champion Oklahoma led the way with six honorees, including Haley Lee earning Most Outstanding Player.
Angelina Allen had a monster of an opening-round game against Baylor, as the sophomore went four-of-five at the plate against the Bears. Allen notched two extra-base hits, both doubles, and recorded two RBI on the day. Allen led the entire field in hits entering the championship matchup.
Allen wasn't the only Cyclone to dominate the opening round, as Ellie Spelhaug also turned in a gem of a performance. The senior out of Bettendorf spun a two-hit gem against the Bears, carrying a no-hitter into the sixth inning before surrendering her only two hits and allowing a run. Spelhaug would make another appearance against the top-ranked Sooners in the semifinals and made her first appearance at the plate on the season for the Cyclones.
After defeating Iowa State, Oklahoma would go on to win the championship game over Texas, 6-1, claiming its 43rd straight win.
