AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head wrestling coach Kevin Dresser announced the addition of Logan Stotts, Colby Runner and Thomas Freking to the program Friday morning.
Logan Stotts
Stotts joins the Cyclones from Waukee Northwest High School. He posted a 130-36 record and was a three-time Iowa High School state qualifier. In his final season with the Wolves, Stotts posted a 44-12 record en route to a fifth-place finish in the class 3A 152-pound bracket.
Stotts projects at 157 pounds for Iowa State.
He is the younger brother of Austin and Grant Stotts, who wrestled for the Cyclones from 2017-21 and 2018-23, respectively.
Colby Runner
Runner, a Carr, Colorado native, joins the Cyclones from Severance High School where he was a four-time state placewinner, three-time finalist and two-time state champion.
His first state title in 2022, which capped a 45-3 junior season, was Severance's first state championship in any sport. Runner finished his career with a 38-5 senior season and a second state title in 2023. Three of his four wins en route to his second championship came with bonus points (one pin, two major decisions).
Runner was a state runner-up as a sophomore in 2021 and placed sixth as a freshman in 2020.
He projects at 174/184 pounds for the Cyclones.
Thomas Freking
Freking joins the Cyclones from Minnesota wrestling powerhouse Jackson County Central. Freking is a three-time Minnesota state qualifier, two-time placewinner and capped his prep career with a 138-pound state title and 52-7 record in 2023.
As a junior, Freking placed fourth with a 45-11 record. Freking also helped the Huskies win Class A State dual team titles in 2022 and 2023.
Freking projects at 141 pounds for Iowa State.
