Iowa State Welcomes Illinois State Into Hilton

Leading Off: No. 22 Iowa State welcome No. 30 Illinois State to Ames for their first Big 12 meet. The Cyclones are coming off a phenomenal performance last time out in their win over BYU and will look to keep that momentum going forward.
Iowa State currently holds the all-time series lead against the Redbirds with a 13-5 record. Last time these two teams met was back in 2022 when the Cyclones came out on top. ISU has won nine of the last 10 meetings.
The Cyclones will look to pick up right where they left off. Last Friday at home against BYU they scored their highest home score since 2006. This meet will mark both alumni night where ISU are expecting a lot of former gymnasts back as well as Gold Rules, so make sure to where gold to Hilton
Storylines:
- Iowa State won at home last Friday over BYU by a score of 196.900-196.125.
- This win marked the first of the Ashley Miles Greig era.
- Hannah Loyim set a new all-around career high with a 39.425.
- This is back-to-back meets Loyim has set a new career high in all-around.
- Noelle Adams stood out yet again. The freshmen scored two 9.9's first came on vault and the second came on the floor. This earned her Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.
- Adams now has four 9.9 scores early in the season.
- Iowa State got a great showing on bars. It was led by two seniors, Lauren Thomas, and Laura Cooke. Both were able to score 9.900 on their routines.
- The Cyclones come in ranked 22nd on Road to Nationals with their top event ranking being on vault where they place 11th nationally.
From the Notes:
- Iowa State had a very strong showing on every event against BYU. The Cyclones scored new season highs in every rotation.
- This was topped by their vault performance with a score of 49.350.
- ISU scored five 9.9's on the night all together.
- These came from Noelle Adams (vault and floor), Josie Bergstrom (vault), Lauren Thomas (bars), and Laura Cooke (bars).
- The Cyclones score of 196.900 was their highest home score in the last 17 years dating back to March 17, 2006.
- Iowa State had a big jump on the beam last Friday with a score of 49.100. They will look to continue to build off of each performance.
- The lineup consisted of Hannah Loyim, Lauren O'Brochta, Noelle Adams, Madelyn Manternach, Josie Bergstrom, and Lauren Thomas.
Switching Sides to the Redbirds:
- Head Coach Bob Conkling is entering his 17th year at the helm of Illinois State.
- Illinois State comes into this meet ranked No. 30 on Road to Nationals
- The Redbirds are off to a very solid start to the season with a record of 5-1 and their highest score being 195.900 from last Saturday.
- Illinois State has competed in a quad meet in which they came in 1st and a tri-meet this past weekend where they placed 2nd.
- Conkling brought in four freshmen to pair with their 15 returnees.
