LAWRENCE, Kan. – Iowa State (9-9, 3-4 Big 12) lost in four at No. 9 Kansas (17-1, 8-0 Big 12) by set scores of 21-25, 15-25, 25-23, 18-15. Iowa State did not go down without a fight, taking the third set to prevent the sweep at KU, a team that has 10 sweeps on the season.
Iowa State came out strong, finding a 21-16 lead in the first but the home team went on a 7-0 run to close out the first in front. KU took the second to go up in the match 2-0, but Iowa State responded after falling behind by as much as five deep in the set (25-17) to extend the match. KU controlled the fourth to go on and win it.
Amiree Hendricks-Walker had her fourth straight game with double figure kills, delivering 11 at an efficient .391. Hendricks-Walker was also a phenomenal blocker totaling seven to lead the match.
Faith DeRonde led the Cyclones with 12 kills, her third match in double figures out of four playing at front row.
Rachel Van Gorp totaled 20 digs and six kills playing as an outside hitter, recording the freshman's second 20-plus dig match. Libero Brooke Stonestreet came one dig shy of her seventh 20-plus dig match of the season with 19.
Freshman Emily Bobbitt was one dig shy of a double-double with 20 assists and nine digs, also serving to an ace. Morgan Brandt brought in 21 assists.
Maya Duckworth made her return in the third set after missing the previous three matches.
SET ONE
A trio of Cyclones put down four kills while a long rally followed with ISU coming out on top to take a 6-4 lead. Tierney Jackson became the sixth Cyclone to record a kill early, while Jackson and Kiersten Schmitt teamed up for the block next to make it 10-7, ISU. The run extended to three straight while KU called a timeout next with ISU hitting at .583. DeRonde delivered her third kill on as many attempts to make it a five-point Cyclone lead (15-10). DeRonde put down another remaining perfect as the Cyclones reached 20 points with Kansas holding 16. The Jayhawks came back to tie it at 21s and kept their run going to take the set 25-21.
SET TWO
Two Kansas errors put ISU up first, but the Jayhawks took the next four. The score was brought to a 5-5 tie, while KU sent over three kills aiding them to a 9-5 lead. DeRonde's fifth kill halted the Kansas run, and her sixth shortly after brought ISU within three (10-7). Kansas held the momentum, making it 20-11 deep into the set. ISU fought off set point once, but Kansas followed to take the second 25-15 outhitting ISU .308-.135 in the frame.
SET THREE
An Emily Bobbitt ace gave the Cyclones a 4-2 edge to begin, while Kansas flipped the lead but ISU battled on to tie it at 10s. Hendricks-Walker sent over her fifth and sixth kills to keep within one at 13-12, but Kansas pushed forward to a 17-12 advantage as ISU called a timeout. Iowa State fought on, coming back to tie it at 23s on a solo block by Hendricks-Walker. A kill by Lilly Wachholz took ISU to a set point opportunity and another block, this one by Hendricks-Walker and Wachholz, sealed the set for the Cyclones 25-23 to keep the match going.
SET FOUR
Following a 3-3 tie, the Jayhawks had a block, a kill and an ace to lead by three. ISU kept in it as Hendricks-Walker collected her 10th kill at 12-10 with KU leading. After Kansas went up 16-11, Schmitt halted a Jayhawk run with a kill out of a timeout but KU pressed on to lead 20-13. Kansas would go on to win the match with a fourth set score of 25-18.

Iowa State returns home to host Kansas State Sunday, Oct. 27 at noon, with the match being a Black Out. The match will be televised on ESPN2.
