The 2024 Cyclones
Maya Duckworth put down a career-high 23 kills at K-State, totaling 19 through the first three sets (6.33 per set). It was the second 20-plus kill match of her career. Duckworth has come one dig shy of double-doubles in the last three matches.
Brooke Stonestreet extended her 25-plus dig match streak to five with 25 at K-State. The libero also had a perfect reception percentage last week (40/40).
Morgan Brandt had her second straight double-double and sixth of the season at K-State. Brandt totaled her 2,000th career assist vs. SD, becoming the 12th in ISU history to hit the milestone. Brandt currently holds 2,300, 169 from breaking into the top 10.
Johnson-Lynch continues her 20th season leading Iowa State, a program she has transformed. Johnson-Lynch holds 378 career victories (.646 winning percentage), with 205 of those being Big 12 wins to rank fourth in all-time conference history. Iowa State totals 10 20-win seasons under Johnson-Lynch, including the past two seasons.
The Opponents
Iowa State and Houston will meet for the second time as Big 12 opponents. Last season in the first meeting between the teams since 1983, Iowa State won at the Fertitta Center while Houston was ranked 21st nationally. This season, Houston swept K-State, won a set at No. 9 Kansas and took No. 22 TCU to five sets. In the national ranks, Lily Barron ranks 17th in aces averaging .56 per set.
Iowa State is slated to play at UCF for the first time. In the first meeting as Big 12 opponents last season, ISU swept the Knights at Hilton. UCF has two players with a hitting percentage over .300 and at least 95 kills. Alexia Kuehl is hitting at .421 (95 kills) to rank 19th nationally while Britt Carlson holds a season hitting percentage of .328 with 114 kills.
