IRVING, Texas – Iowa State redshirt sophomore Avery Gillahan has been named the Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week for her shutout effort against Kansas State, the conference announced Wednesday.
Gillahan, who is in her second season as the team's primary keeper, notched her fourth shutout of the season on Sunday in a 0-0 draw against K-State. In five Big 12 matches, Gillahan and the Cyclones now have three shutouts. ISU hasn't had three conference shutouts in a season since 2016.
Avery played all 90 minutes between the pipes on Sunday, collecting six saves, and pushing her season total to 66. She sits one save shy of first place in the conference, just behind K-State's Murphy Sheaff who has 67.
She had six saves against the Wildcats, having faced 18 shots on the afternoon, surpassing her 2023 save total of 62 in the process. With her six saves, Gillahan recorded her fifth match of the season with at least six saves.
On the season, Avery holds a 1.41 goals-against average and totes a .786 save percentage. Of her now seven career clean sheets, four have come against Big 12 foes.
Gillahan joins Cyclone legend Jordan Silkowitz as recipients of the Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week award. Silkowitz obtained the honor five times during her time as a Cyclone. Other ISU goalkeepers have won Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, but the award name was changed in the late 2010's to accommodate both defensive players and keepers.
The Cyclones are back in action tomorrow, Oct. 10, against Cincinnati as they welcome the Bearcats to Ames. The two teams will kick off at 6 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
