ORLANDO, Fla. - The Iowa State women's golf team opened the spring season Saturday, competing in the opening round of the UCF Challenge.
After one round, the Cyclones are tied with No. 26 North Texas for 14th place with a 298. No. 28 North Carolina has the team lead with a 279, while North Carolina's Megan Steicher and Texas Tech's Lauren Zaretsky hold the individual lead at eight-under par with a 64.
Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn and Pammy Chookaew led the Cyclones in the first round, as they both are tied for 32nd. The Cyclone pair shot a one-over 73 to open play. Chul-Ak-Sorn had four birdies on the day, with two coming on each nine. Chookaew birdied the 18th.
Liyana Durisic, Tess Blair and Keeley Marx are all tied for 62nd. The Cyclone trio each shot a four-over 76. Durisic and Blair each birdied the 16th hole, while Marx turned in three birdies on the day.Â
The first round of the tournament was moved up to Saturday due to weather in Orlando and the remaining two days will be altered now as well. The second round will begin at 12 p.m. (CT) on Sunday, while the final round is set for 7:30 a.m. (CT) on Monday.
