Cyclones Finish Third at Wyoming Cowboy Classic

MARICOPA, Ariz. - The Iowa State men's golf team completed the second and third rounds of the Wyoming Cowboy Classic ending in third place. Luke Gutschewski finished in second place individually.

The Cyclones trailed the winner, Grand Canyon, by just three strokes. UNLV came in second with a score of 835, one stroke ahead of the Cyclones. After going back and forth through the third round of the tournament, UNLV's Yuki Moriyama claimed first place with a score of 17-under-par.

Junior Luke Gutschewski carded a 67 (five-under-par) in both the first and third rounds as well as a 70 (two-under-par) in the second round. Gutschewski started the day in sixth and managed to jump four places with six birdies and an eagle in the final round. Zach May tied for 25th with a three-round score of 212, just three strokes off his career best three-round score. May had 13 birdies and an eagle throughout the three rounds of the tournament.

Freshman Owen Sawyer trailed May by just one stroke to tie for 31st. In his last two rounds of the tournament Sawyer was under par (70-70) and had eight birdies. Lukas Pany tied his season low round (69) in the second round, improving his score from the first round by five strokes. Paul Beauvy tied for 45th with two rounds below par for a three-round score of 215.

The Cyclones conclude the Wyoming Cowboy Classic with a score of 28-under-par (836). The Iowa State men's golf team will continue their season in the following week with the two-day Tiger Collegiate Invitational in Colombia, Mo. The tournament will begin on Monday, April 8 and conclude on Tuesday, April 9.
