AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State swimming and diving program is proud to announce the seventh member of the 2024 signing class and the fourth swimmer in Grace Swoboda.Â
Swoboda joins the Cyclones from La Vista, Neb., where she swam at Mercy Catholic High School under coach Jimmy Parmenter along with coach Tom Beck at Greater Omaha Aquatics.Â
Swoboda brings an elite level of experience in the breaststroke events, with a personal best of 1:03.36 in the 100 breaststroke that led her to four top-eight finishes at Nebraska State Swimming and a first-place finish in February.Â
The three-time female Swimmer of the Meet at the Rivers City Conference Championships, Swoboda also adds state qualifying performances in the 50 free, reaching as high as second place with a personal best of 23.98.Â
"We are excited to have Grace as part of our Cyclone family with quality and depth in the breaststroke and sprint freestyle events." assistant head coach Kelly Nordell said. "She comes from an exceptional program in Omaha run by coach Tom Beck and is poised to blossom in the college setting."Â
Outside of the pool, Swoboda is also an elite student and person with multiple academic honors in the classroom. That includes three years on the Nebraska Chiropractic Physicians Association (NCPA) Academic All-State in high school.
Swoboda is also involved in Lolo's Angels, a charity that raises funds and awareness for people and families affected by high-risk forms of pediatric cancer.Â
"I am incredibly excited for the athletic and academic opportunities that I will have at Iowa State," Swoboda said. "I look forward to joining the great family culture of the swim team and the outstanding engineering program at Iowa State."
