TORONTO, Canada – Former Iowa State women's basketball standout Bridget Carleton (2015-19) has been named to the Canadian Olympic team ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, as announced by Canada Basketball and the Canadian Olympic Committee. Carleton is now a two-time selection to the Senior National Olympic Team after earning her first selection in 2021.
"From the first time I talked to Bridget she was focused on representing Canada in the Olympics," said head coach Bill Fennelly. "She was a great player at Iowa State, and we take great pride that we have been a part of her journey. I am so proud of her and look forward to watching her in Paris this summer."
Carleton competed for the Cyclones from 2015-19 and was a four-year starter at Iowa State. She capped her career off with one of the best single seasons in Iowa State women's basketball history, averaging 21.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.3 steals and 1.2 blocks. Carleton finished her storied career with a slew of honors, earning multiple All-America nods, Iowa State's first Big 12 Player of the Year and being named the Cheryl Miller Award Winner, which honors the nation's top small forward.
Carleton has competed for Team Canada since 2013, and first earned appearances on their Senior Women's National Team Roster in 2016.
Canada was drawn into Group B for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and will face hosts France (July 29, 10:15 a.m. CT), Australia (August 1, 6:30 a.m. CT) and Nigeria (August 4, 6:30 a.m. CT).
In February, Canada went 1-2 at the FIBA Women's Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024 in Sopron, Hungary, to successfully qualify for their eighth appearance in the tournament since women's basketball debuted at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Carleton averaged 11.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists over three games for Canada at the tournament.
