Four Cyclones in the Top 10 As Iowa State Wins the Zach Johnson Invitational

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa - The Cyclones grab a tournament win for the second consecutive year at the Zach Johnson Invitational, as four Cyclones finish inside the Top-10. Iowa State as a team finished nine under par as they carded an 843 (287-284-272). The 272 in the third round is tied for the sixth lowest round as a team in program history.Â
Owen Sawyer and Luke Gutschewski led the Cyclones, both tying for fourth place with a 210 (-3). After claiming the best finish of his career last week at the Bearcat Invitational, Sawyer follows it up by breaking it again this week by finishing in a tie for fourth. Sawyer tallied ten birdies across the three rounds. Gutschewski carded a pair of rounds in the 60's and twelve birdies to help him secure his twelfth Top-10 finish of his career.
Zach May finished in the Top-10 for the second time of his career, placing in seventh with a score of 211 (74-71-66), his third lowest 54-hole score. The 66 May carded in the third round ties his lowest round as a Cyclone, where he tallied eight birdies on the round and a team-high thirteen over the two days. Paul Beauvy sat right behind May in eighth, carding a 212 (73-70-69). Beauvy ended with eleven birdies and secured his eighth Top-10 finish.
Dianchao Wu tied for 45th with a score of 223, and tallied ten birdies. Playing as an individual, Luke Metcalf grabs his best finish, placing in a tie for 27th. The freshman carded a career-best 219 (71-74-74) and finished with eleven birdies.
The Cyclones have a week off before they head to Hockley, Texas for Big 12 Match Play. The event starts on Monday, Oct. 7th and will conclude on Wednesday, Oct. 9th.
