AMES, Iowa – No. 14 Iowa State (9-4, 4-1 Big 12) rattled off six-straight wins Friday night, as the Cyclones beat Arizona State (4-7, 1-5 Big 12) 26-15 at Hilton Coliseum. The victory was the 250th career dual meet win for Iowa State Head Coach Kevin Dresser, including his 90th as a Cyclone.
The Sun Devils jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, as No. 2 Richard Figueroa won by fall in 1:55 over Ethan Perryman at 125 pounds. Figueroa held a 6-1 lead before recording the first period fall.
At 133 pounds, No. 5 Evan Frost trailed Julian Chlebove 1-0 into the third period but rallied for a 5-1 victory. Frost escaped and then earned the matches' only takedown with 1:25 remaining. Frost finished with 1:53 in advantage time for another point. It was the ninth-straight win for Frost, who picked up the 50th win of his career.
The Frost brothers continued their winning ways, as No. 11 Jacob Frost picked up a 6-1 victory over Emilio Ysaguirre at 141 pounds. Frost trailed 1-0 entering the third period before securing the victory with an escape, takedown, point for stalling and 1:35 of advantage of time. Just like his brother, Jacob earned his ninth-straight victory, as he now has a team-leading 23 on the year.
At 149 pounds, No. 7 Paniro Johnson won his 12th-straight match, as he beat No. 21 Jesse Vasquez 10-4. Johnson recorded a takedown in second period to take the lead for good before adding a pair of takedowns in the third period. Johnson improved to 9-0 at 149 pounds this season and 18-3 overall.
In the most electrifying match of the night, Carter Fousek trailed 6-0 in the first period at 157 pounds before coming back to tie the match at 8-8 with 1:06 remaining. Fousek then put Pierson Manville on this back with a cradle, recording the fall in 6:07. In his Hilton Coliseum debut, Fousek notched his first-career dual meet victory.
At 165 pounds, Aiden Riggins recorded a takedown in each of the three periods, as he cruised to a 21-7 major decision against Javani Majoor. Riggins totaled four takedowns in the third period, and six in the match, for his fourth major decision of the season.
No. 21 MJ Gaitan notched a pair of takedowns in the first period, including one at the buzzer, as he beat Joseph Manfredi by 15-5 major decision. A pair of takedowns in the third period gave Gaitan his second major decision of the season. Iowa State's run of six-straight victories came to an end at 184 pounds, as Shay Addison defeated Nando Villaescusa by fall in 5:38. Addison led 13-1 when he recorded the fall.
Iowa State got back on track at 197 pounds, as Nate Schon beat Jacob Meissner 7-4. Schon used a takedown as time expired in the second period to cut into Jacob Meissner's 4-0 lead before recording a takedown with :13 remaining for the victory. In the final match of the night, No. 5 Cohlton Schultz defeated No. 26 Daniel Herrera 3-0.
