Leading Off: After failing to qualify as a team for the 2025 NCAA postseason, the Cyclones will look to bounce back in 2026 and earn a berth to an NCAA Regional. For the second consecutive season, Iowa State will open its campaign in the first weekend of January on the road at a top-ten SEC school - last season, ISU opened at No. 2 LSU.
The Cyclones concluded the 2025 campaign with four individuals qualifying for the Salt Lake City Regional. Three of those individuals, Haylee Hardin, Noelle Adams and Frederique Sgarbossa, are back in the fold for the Cyclones.
Ranked seventh in the WCGA preseason poll, Missouri enters 2026 coming off its best season in program history. The Tigers finished in third at the NCAA Championship final last season, marking the best postseason finish for any women's team in Mizzou history.
Storylines:
- After completing the school's largest single-season turnaround in her first season (finishing 15 places higher in the RTN standings from 2023-24), ISU missed the postseason as a team in 2025 and will look to make it back in 2026.
- With the graduation of program staples, ISU's rotations will look markedly different in 2026. To account for lost production, ISU brought in nine newcomers – two transfers and seven freshmen.
- Iowa State is one of just two Big 12 programs (Utah) to compete on multiple linear broadcasts this season.
- ISU will host its first-ever televised meet on Jan. 25 against Utah.

- UW-Whitewater transfer Chloe Hammond joins the team with seven career event wins, tied for the second-most on the team.
- Hammond is an Ankeny native, returning to her home state.
- Gaby and Ale Alvarez are the first set of twins to ever compete for Iowa State joining ISU has also had a set of triplets (Katie, Kim and Karen Mazza from 1994-97) compete for the team.
- This marks the second-straight season that Iowa State will host five home meets. Prior to last year, the Cyclones hadn't hosted five times in a season since 2019.
- Three Cyclones were named to the Preseason Gymnastics Team.
Switching Sides to Missouri:
- Mizzou Head Coach Shannon Walker is entering his 13th season as the leader of the Missouri program.
- In his 13-year head coaching career, Walker is 112-87-1.
- Prior to getting his first head coaching job with the Tigers, he spent eight years as an assistant coach between Bowling Green and Michigan.
- The Tigers were voted the seventh-ranked team in the WCGA preseason poll, with three SEC teams making up the top three in the land.
- The seventh-place preseason prediction marks the highest preseason ranking in program history.
- Missouri was one of five teams nationally to receive multiple first-place votes.
