Related Links More from Cyclones.tv The seed for Mike Myers' long and successful Major League Baseball career was planted at Iowa State where he excelled for the Cyclones from 1988-90. The lefty hurler was a Second-Team All-Big Eight pick in 1989 when he compiled a 6-5 record and tossed a team-high 62 strikeouts. The Crystal Lake, Ill., native earned Big Eight All-Tournament honors as a senior in 1990 before getting drafted by the San Francisco Giants. Myers spent five years in the minor leagues before getting a call-up in 1995 with Florida and Detroit. Myers soon developed into one of MLB's best lefty-on-lefty specialists, leading the Major League in appearances in 1996 (83) and 1997 (88). In 2000, he posted a 1.99 ERA in 78 appearances for the Colorado Rockies and won a World Series ring with the Boston Red Sox in 2004.
