Considered one of the leading sprint and hurdle authorities in the Midwest, Scott Roberts enters his eighth season at Iowa State after coaching stints at Drake, Ohio State University and Northeast Missouri State (Truman State).
Roberts has truly made his mark at ISU. In the last seven seasons, Roberts’ sprinters, hurdlers and combined events student-athletes have set 40 school records, set personal bests in over 300 separate events and have qualified for the NCAA National Championships 23 times.
Some of Roberts’ recent athletes include, Barbara Szlendakova and Aurelia Trywianska. Szlendakova, who completed her eligibility in 2002 was a two-time Big 12 Conference champion in the pentathlon and a two-time 60-meter hurdles All-American in the heptathlon. Trywianska is the ISU school record holder in the 100-meter hurdles, was a Big 12 runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles, a two-time Polish national champion and in 2003 finished fifth in the World Championships in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.73.
Another of Roberts’ successes was Ola Adetiba. Adetiba was the ninth-best American in the 2000 NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 200 meters. In 2001, she posted a personal best and ISU school record time of 23.46 seconds. Adetiba also set the 100-meter school record in 2000 with an 11.47 clocking.
