Grant Wall enters his third season as assistant coach of track and field for throws at Iowa State. Through the 2008-09 season, Wall held the position of head coach of the Saginaw Valley State track and field and cross country teams.
For the 2011-2012 season, Wall brought in one of the most highly sought after throws recruits from Dover, Del. Christina Hillman was a high school national champion in the shot put and won a silver medal at the 2011 Junior Pan-American games. Hillman, along with teammate Hayli Bozarth, both earned All-Big 12 honors at the 2012 Big 12 Indoor Championships. Wall also coached athletes to the USA Indoor Championships. Laishema Hampton recorded a sixth-place finish in the weight throw while Danielle Frere earned a fifth-place finish in the shot put with a school record-setting mark and a seventh-place finish in the weight throw.
During the 2010-2011 season, Wall coached three student-athletes to school record breaking performances (Josh Koglin-outdoor hammer throw, Britta Christofferson-outdoor hammer throw and Laishema Hampton-indoor weight throw). Wall's throwers produced five All-Big 12 performances at the Big 12 Indoor Championships and had three All-Big 12 honorees at the outdoor conference championships. Then junior Danielle Frere earned a bid to the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships, where she finished 19th.
During his first season as the head coach at Saginaw Valley State, he coached four All-Americans, and had one US Junior Nationals qualifier. Under Wall’s tenure as head coach, he coached athletes that set seven school records, 30 student athletes to earn provisional qualifying marks, and had 13 national qualifiers.
Before serving as head coach at SVSU, Wall was an assistant coach at Columbia (2006-08) and at Miami (Ohio) (2001-2006). During that time Wall tutored at the Division I level a two-time All-American and two-time conference champion in the hammer throw, two regional pole vault qualifiers, a seventh-place finish at the US Indoor Heptathlon and 20 athletes who have placed on the all-time top-10 lists in six different events.
Wall has also mentored numerous student-athletes at Miami (Ohio), Columbia and Saginaw Valley State, during which 40 of his student-athletes have been honored for their academic excellence.
Wall graduated from Ohio State in 1998 with a B.S. in education, and received an M.S. in sports organization from Miami in 1999. A native of Columbus, Ohio, Wall attended Westerville North High. He first entered Ohio Northern, transferring to Ohio State. He ran cross country for both.
