Iowa State assistant coach Scott Ebke has been a significant part of the Cyclone soccer program’s rise to national noteriity. Ebke’s work as a coach and recruiter was a major factor in ISU’s first-ever NCAA Tournament berth in 2005. In his fourth season as an assistant coach at Iowa State, Ebke adds seven years to the Cyclone coaching staff’s overall Big 12 soccer experience. He is in his 10th season of collegiate coaching overall. Ebke coached at Mississippi State and Nebraska before coming to Iowa State in the spring of 2003.
Since joining the ISU staff, Ebke has played a key role in the on-the-field and academic development of Cyclone student-athletes. He has been instrumental in recruiting efforts that brought in a nationally recognized recruiting class in 2006. He serves as assistant recruiting coordinator and camp coordinator. He also oversees scouting, equipment and strength and conditioning as well as video breakdown of the Cyclones and opponents. On the field, Ebke assists in development of the field players.
Ebke spent the 2000-02 seasons as an assistant coach at Mississippi State. While there, his duties included compliance, scouting and recruiting, in addition to on-the-field instruction. The Bulldogs captured the Southeastern Conference West Division title in 2001, posting a 13-8 overall record, and had two players named to the all-conference squad. The conference title was the first by any women’s program at Mississippi State.
Before his stint at MSU, Ebke served as a student and volunteer assistant coach at the University of Nebraska for three seasons. The Cornhuskers advanced to the NCAA Tournament each year. Ebke was with the Nebraska program during ISU head coach Rebecca Hornbacher’s final season as a Husker goalkeeper.
Ebke has significant youth coaching experience as well. He coached for two seasons in the Nebraska Youth Soccer Association, leading the ?79 boys team to the Region II Camp in 1996. The Des Moines native served as assistant director of coaching and administration for the Iowa State Youth Soccer Association in 1998. As an ISYSA head coach, he guided the ?85 girls team to the 1996 regional camp.
In 1999 and 2000, Ebke coached the Sparta (Neb.) Soccer Club U14 girls squad that won the 1999 state title and placed third at the Region II club tournament. The squad also captured the team title at the 1999 Cornhusker State Games. Ebke served as an assistant coach on the ?87 Iowa ODP girls team during the 2003-04 season.
After competing at Johnston High School for four seasons, Ebke competed for the Nebraska club team from 1994-96 and played semipro soccer for the Lincoln Brigade Soccer Club from 1996-98.
Ebke earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Nebraska in 1999. He is accredited with a "B" coaching license from the United States Soccer Federation and a goalkeeping license from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and a NSCAA member.
Ebke married Jennifer Stewart of Brandon, Miss., on June 19, 2004. The couple welcomed their first child, a baby girl, Mckinleigh Morgan, on September 10, 2006. The couple resides in Huxley, Iowa.
