STILLWATER, Okla. - Iowa State could not overcome a 21-point halftime deficit and fell 74-59 at Oklahoma State. The Cowgirls (8-10, 3-4 Big 12) shot 51.6 percent in the first half and built a 42-21 lead at the half while the Cyclones (9-8, 2-4) managed just 25 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes. ISU moves to 1-5 on the road this season and has lost 10 consecutive road games against southern division conference foes.
Iowa State held an early 9-6 lead six minutes into the contest but did not have a field goal during an 11-3 Cowgirl run over the next six minutes. A free throw by Brittany Wilkins brought Iowa State within five with 5:47 left, but the Cyclones would get no closer.
Oklahoma State outscored ISU 21-5 over the last five-and-a-half minutes of the first half, with the Cowgirls converting 7-of-9 field goals, including all three 3-point attempts. ISU managed only a jumper by Anne O'Neil and a 3-pointer by Tracy Paustian. O'Neil and Paustian were perfect in a combined three attempts from beyond the arc in the first half, but their teammates combined to shoot 0-for-11.
The Cyclones narrowed the deficit in the first eight minutes of the second half, and six straight points by Erica Junod made the score 49-39 with 12:26 remaining. OSU heated up again and reeled off 10 straight points to grab a 20-point advantage with nine minutes remaining.
O'Neil and Lisa Kriener each scored six points on a 12-1 run that made it 60-51 with four minutes left, but the Cowgirls pulled away with six points in the next minute to build the lead to 15. OSU's Trisha Skibbe finished with a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Iowa State attempted 31 3-pointers, the second time this season the Cyclones have tried 30 or more from downtown. O'Neil posted team highs with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists, the second time during the conference season she has led ISU in all three categories. Kriener and Wilkins scored 11 points each, and Paustian equaled a season high with nine points.
ISU shot a conference season-low 31.6 percent from the field while Oklahoma State's 44.6 percent is the best by an Iowa State opponent in Big 12 play.
