COLUMBIA, Mo. - Iowa State's comeback bid came up short in a 63-58 loss at Missouri Saturday. The Tigers got their second consecutive season sweep of the Cyclones and tied ISU at eighth in the league standings heading into the final game of the regular season.
Missouri, now 15-11 overall and 6-9 in Big 12 action, jumped out to an 8-0 lead less than a minute into the game. Iowa State (13-13, 6-9) made four of its next five shots to narrow the gap to 12-10 before the Tigers would go on another run. MU took its largest lead (22-13) at 9:13, but the Cyclones scored six unanswered points to pull within 22-19 with 6:50 left to play in the first half. Iowa State outscored Missouri 10-2 over the final 4:54 to lead 29-28 at the break.
The second half featured nine lead changes and seven ties. Iowa State owned a 54-52 lead with 2:26, but two Evan Unrau free throws would tie the score at 54-54 with 1:47 left to go. Two turnovers would cost the Cyclones and MU sank 7-of-8 free throws to seal the victory.
Anne O'Neil led ISU with 13 points, while Megan Ronhovde and Erica Junod added 11 points each. Mary Fox pulled down 11 rebounds for the Cyclones. MU's Stretch James led all scorers with 21 points. Unrau had 14, hitting all 12 of her charity shots.
Iowa State shot 39 percent in the game and limited Missouri to 35.3 percent accuracy. The Cyclones, who lead the league in free throw percentage, hit just 5-of-10 in the game. The Tigers drained 21-of-23 from the line.
