The first half was battle for possession, with both teams firing shots on goal. KU took the lead in the 14th-minute when Bush touched in her own rebound, for her third goal of the season.
ISU's Hill tried to even the score with three great shots in the first period, but was unable to convert a goal. While the ISU offense was in the midst of its most productive first half this season, the ISU defense kept alive with several good takeaways and tackles.
With seven minutes remaining before the half, KU capitalized on another scoring opportunity. McCabe took a pass from Michelle Rasmussen and dribbled in on ISU goalkeeper Ann Gleason one-on-one. Her shot from the center of the box flew into the back of the net, scoring her third goal of the season, giving KU a 2-0 lead.
Despite an almost equally strong offensive attack in the second half, the Cyclones were unable to answer the two first half KU goals. In the middle of the second half, Hill's best shot of the night for the Cyclones, hit off the KU cross bar.
KU goalkeeper Julie Hanley had several great saves on the Cyclones' 18 shots in her season-high nine save effort. ISU's Gleason also tallied a season-high nine saves in the net. KU had 16 shots overall.
Seniors Kate Kirwan and Jess Villhauer each played their 75th game Friday breaking into the ISU recordbooks. They are tied with two others in the ninth position for career games played. Kirwan also currently has 74 career starts, good for a sixth place tie in the ISU recordbooks.
