DALLAS, Texas -- Iowa State two-time All-American Trent Paulson used an advantage in riding time to beat 2006 NCAA 157-pound runner up Brian Stith of Arizona State in the 157-pound wrestling bout of the 41st NWCA All-Star Classic presented by the United States Marine Corps Monday at the Dallas Convention Center Arena .
The match remained scoreless until the 10 seconds into the second period when Paulson started from the down position and was able to score an escape to go up 1-0. Stith was able to escape late in the third to tie it up at 1-1. Paulson held a 1:32 riding time advantage that ultimately earned him the 2-1 victory.
Both Paulson and Stith occupy a number one spot in various rankings. Paulson is ranked first by Amateur Wrestling News , while Stith is listed at number one by The Wrestling Mall, W.I.N. Magazine and InterMat/NWCA. Paulson and Stith had met once before with Paulson taking a 3-1 decision. Paulson now holds a 2-0 series against the two-time All-American from Arizona State .
It will not be long before the two meet again as the Cyclones play host to Arizona State Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum.
