LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Iowa State women's tennis fell to No. 62 Kansas this afternoon in Lawrence. The Cyclones picked up the first match point by capturing the doubles point but failed to gain any singles victories.
Senior Elizabeth Chermel and freshman Kara Hickey paired up in the No. 2 doubles spot to defeat Kansas' Lauren Hommell and Edina Horvath 9-7. The No. 3 doubles team, consisting of junior Danielle Uscinski and sophomore Chrissy Derouin, also captured a win for the Cyclones after beating Kansas' Christine Skoda and Stephanie Smith 9-7.
Kansas finished the day by dominating in singles play against Iowa State. The Jayhawks took all six matches and achieved a 6-1 win over the Cyclones.
The Cyclones continue action on the road next weekend in Oklahoma. They play No. 65 Oklahoma State on Saturday at noon in Stillwater, Okla. They finish off the weekend road trip at Oklahoma on Sunday at noon in Norman Okla.
