Iowa State senior volleyball player Erin Boeve will be writing a weekly blog this season to give Cyclone fans an insiders look at the happenings of the program, which last year advanced to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in school history. Boeve, a middle blocker from Steen, Minn., became the first Cyclone to earn AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors a year ago. She also was the first ISU volleyballer to be named first-team All-Big 12 and the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Year. A preseason All-Big 12 selection this year, Boeve is the school's record holder for career block assists and owns the top-two single seasons in school history as well.

Hello again to all the ISU fans! Another week has passed for the Iowa State volleyball team, so let me fill you in! This week was a tough week for us as we played two ranked teams, Nebraska and Kansas State. Nebraska is currently the nation's top-ranked team and Kansas State is presently ranked No. 16.
We took off for Nebraska on Tuesday night after practice. It was one of our first bus trips we have had in a while, since we normally fly everywhere. We arrived in Lincoln around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday was a normal game day as we watched film in the morning and had practice in the early afternoon along with a pre-game meal at Spaghetti Works before the big match on Wednesday night. Playing at Nebraska is always an awesome experience! They have a great crowd, with an awesome atmosphere! I just can't believe that it was already my last time playing there. We came out strong in game one taking them into extra points but getting beat 33-31. It was a very exciting game, but we just weren't able to finish it off. Game two and three didn't go quite as well and we ended up losing the match in three games. It was fun to see that we could play with the best team in the nation, but we just need to keep that level of play for longer periods of time than just one game in order to become a top 25 team.
We were back in the gym on Thursday and Friday to prepare for our next opponent, Kansas State. This match took place on Saturday night here in Ames. We had a season-high crowd of 2,157 people, which is awesome to play in front of. We unfortunately lost the match in three games with most of the games being relatively close. We were definitely disappointed with the loss, but now we just have to remember that there is a lot of season left ahead of us. We have one match left this Wednesday against Colorado, and then we start the second half of Big 12 play, playing everyone all over again!
This weekend also included a Volleyball Reunion for the Iowa State Volleyball Alumni. They were recognized in between games two and three of our match, then we had a social hour following the match. This was a chance for us to meet some of the past players along with giving the former players a chance to reunite with their teammates and catch up on their current lives.
That concludes the wrap-up of this week! Hopefully I will have some better news next week involving some victories!
Go Cyclones!
