Iowa State senior volleyball player Erin Boeve will be writing a weekly blog this season to give Cyclone fans an insiders look at the happenings of the program, which last year advanced to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in school history. Boeve, a middle blocker from Steen, Minn., became the first Cyclone to earn AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors a year ago. She also was the first ISU volleyballer to be named first-team All-Big 12 and the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Year. A preseason All-Big 12 selection this year, Boeve is the school's record holder for career block assists and owns the top-two single seasons in school history as well.

Hello to all my weekly blog readers! You guessed it, another week has passed for the ISU volleyball team and it is time for me to give you an inside look!
This week we were very fortunate and didn't have to travel at all! The Baylor Bears came to Ames on Wednesday night for our second match-up of the season. We made it a very interesting match, but won in five games with the fifth game's score being 16-14! We came out really strong in game one winning 30-20. The second game was close the entire way, but they came out on top with a score of 33-31. The rest of the games in the match were also very close consisting of winning the third game (30-27), dropping the fourth game (25-30), and finally winning the fifth game. This was a very important win for us looking down the road to the NCAA tournament!
We were given the day off on Thursday, but back to practice on Friday and Saturday for our match against Nebraska, which was on Sunday afternoon. It was a very busy weekend for our team as we had a lot of recruits here for the weekend to check out Iowa State. It is awesome to see the interest that has risen the past few years to come here. While the recruits were here they got to see part of a football game, along with a men's and women's basketball game, and best of all they got to see us play Nebraska! They really got a great taste of Cyclone Athletics!
At 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, it was time to play the No. 2 ranked Huskers. It is always great to get a chance to play them here in Hilton Coliseum. This year was extra special as the goal was to “Cram the Coliseum”. The fans did just that, we set a new attendance record for Iowa State at 6,705 fans, crushing the previous record of 4,228 fans! This also set the record for the largest crowd ever to watch a collegiate match here in the state of Iowa! I just want to thank everyone who was a part of this record breaking event. The more fans we get at every match the better the atmosphere is for volleyball!
The outcome of the match did not turn out the way we wanted. We lost the match in three games. We were competitive at times, but in the end we were unable to stop their balanced attack and unable to produce a consistent offense. We will be back in the gym tomorrow to prepare for our match against Missouri on Wednesday, which is in Columbia. You can watch the match on FSN Midwest starting at 6:30 p.m.
Thanks again for all the support from the match on Sunday! Just remember we still have a few home matches left, so come and cheer us on again!
Go Cyclones!
Erin Boeve
