Iowa State senior volleyball player Erin Boeve will be writing a weekly blog this season to give Cyclone fans an insiders look at the happenings of the program, which last year advanced to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in school history. Boeve, a middle blocker from Steen, Minn., became the first Cyclone to earn AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors a year ago. She also was the first ISU volleyballer to be named first-team All-Big 12 and the league's Co-Defensive Player of the Year. A preseason All-Big 12 selection this year, Boeve is the school's record holder for career block assists and owns the top-two single seasons in school history as well.

Hello to all the ISU volleyball fans. Another week has passed and it is time for me to fill you in on the week!
Our first match of the week was on Halloween night against Colorado. Free admission was granted to those who dressed up in their costumes. The winners of the costume contest included someone dressed up as a slice of Kraft cheese, and a child dressed up as Buzz Lightyear. Both costumes were very cute and creative.
Now for some details about the match. Colorado still did not have a win in the Big 12 going into the match, but we knew they were still a very good team. A couple weeks ago, we barely won the match, which went into five games. This time we were able to win in just three games. We came out strong and got the job done! A great win for our team!
On Friday, we were off to Texas for our final regular season commercial flight. This time we were headed to College Station to play Texas A&M. The time of the match got moved up to 1 p.m. on Saturday, so the morning went rather quickly. We had breakfast at the hotel and then we went to the gym for a quick practice. After practice we had about 30 minutes to hang out and relax before warm-ups started.
We couldn't find our rhythm right away in game one, and ended up losing 18-30. The second game we came out on top with a score of 30-28. After the break, we fought hard, but weren't able to win games three or four. It was a very disappointing loss for us but we have to stay focused and be ready to play our next match on Wednesday. It will be very important for us to come out strong right away in the match, something we haven't been able to consistently execute in the past matches.
Come cheer us on Wednesday night as we take on Baylor at 6:30 p.m. in Hilton! Then on Sunday we are playing No. 2 Nebraska at 4 p.m. in a doubleheader with the women's basketball team. We are trying to “Cram the Coliseum” so come on out and support the basketball team at 1 p.m. against Pepperdine and stick around and pull for us as we face the Huskers! Our biggest crowd in school history was 4,228 in 1995 against Nebraska and we want to top that!
Go Cyclones!
