WILMINGTON, N.C. ? The Iowa State tennis team opened up its spring break road trip with a win, as they defeated UNC-Wilmington, 5-2, Tuesday. The Cyclones, 5-4 (0-4), won four singles matches after picking up the doubles point. ISU's 5-2 victory over the Seahawks was the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

In doubles play, the No. 1 duo of Eve Soriano and Kara Hickey pushed their spring record to 8-3 as they defeated UNCW's Molly Molony and Cassie Martin, 8-3. In the No. 2 doubles slot ISU's Jill Palen and Caitlin Loprinzi fell to Lauren Isenhour and Kayla Schwenk, 8-2. In the No. 3 slot, Iowa State's Chrissy Derouin and Alyssa Palen clinched the doubles point for the Cyclones as they defeated the duo of Priscilla Roberts and Hartley Collins, 8-4.

In singles play, the Cyclones won four of the six matches. In the No. 2 slot, ISU's Hickey defeated UNCW's Roberts in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. In the No. 3 slot, Loprinzi improved her singles record to 5-5, as she defeated Kayla Schwenk, 6-2, 5-7, 10-5. Freshman Alyssa Palen also picked up a win for ISU as she defeated UNCW's Martin in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. In the No. 6 slot, ISU's Derouin defeated Collins, 6-4, 6-3.

The Cyclones will resume competition on their East Coast tour on Thursday as they take on Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. Tennis action will begin at 10:30 a.m. CST. Results will be available on Cyclones.com following the match.
