COLUMBIA, Mo. - Columbia, Mo., native Kara Hickey and senior Eve Soriano won their singles matches for the Iowa State tennis team, but the Missouri Tigers held on to defeat the Cyclones, 5-2, at the Green Tennis Center Saturday. The loss drops Iowa State to 5-10 overall and 0-9 in the Big 12, while the Tigers improved to 8-10 overall and 3-7 in conference play.
In singles action, ISU's Hickey won her second consecutive Big 12 singles match as she defeated MU's Amanda Pratzel in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. With the win, Hickey improved her singles record to 9-9 on the year in the No. 2 slot. In the No. 6 slot, ISU's Soriano battled back after dropping the first set to take the match in a tie-breaker over MU's Charlotte Bellis, 4-6, 7-6 (4), (10-7). Soriano's victory pushes her spring singles record to 6-8.
In doubles action, ISU's tandem of Chrissy Derouin and Alyssa Palen won their second consecutive Big 12 doubles match as they defeated MU's pair of Katelyn McKenzie and Charlotte Bellis 8-4. With the win, the Cyclone duo pushed their spring doubles record to 7-7.
The Cyclones will return to the courts April 21, as they travel to Waco, Texas, to square off against No. 15 Baylor. Competition is set to begin at 1 p.m.
