HUTCHINSON, Kan. ? The Iowa State men's golf team fired a final-round 302 total today to finish 12th at the 2007 Big 12 Men's Golf Championship in Hutchinson, Kan. The Cyclones shot 924 over the three rounds, two shots behind Colorado.
Defending NCAA champion Oklahoma State won its second consecutive conference crown with a three-day 866 total. The Cowboys were seven shots better than second place Texas A&M. Oklahoma State All-American Pablo Martin took home medalist honors with a 1-over par 211 tally behind a 2-under 68 this afternoon. Ryan Posey of Oklahoma State finished second (214) followed by Nebraska's Brady Schnell at 215.
Junior Joe Cermak paced the Cyclones, tying for 17th with a 225 total (78-76-71). Cermak, a native of Chicago, Ill., fired ISU's best round of the tournament this afternoon with a 1-over par 71 despite bogeys on the final two holes. It is the best showing by a Cyclone in the Big 12 Tournament since Chris Baker tied for eighth as a freshman in 2005. Baker, a junior from Brownstown, Ind., tied for 27th with rounds of 74-76-78 (228) followed by Cedric Bertin, who tied for 45th at 234 (79-80-75). A native of Bruz, France, Bertin posted his best round of the tournament and the second-best Cyclone score of the day with a 75 today.
Senior Rodney Hamblin and freshman Cameron White finished 52nd and 56th, respectively.
