ISU Falls to Cowgirls on Senior Day

AMES, Iowa - The duo of Chrissy Derouin and Alyssa Palen defeated Oklahoma State's tandem of Jennifer Poskitt and Marta Tsivka, 8-6, in doubles action but the No. 64 Cowgirls upended the Cyclones, 6-1, on Senior Day at the Ames Racquet and Fitness Center Saturday.

With the loss the Cyclones fall to 5-9 overall and 0-8 in the Big 12, while the Cowgirls improve to 13-5 overall and 5-2 in conference action. All five of the Cowgirls' losses have come against top-40 ranked squads.

In singles action, ISU's Kara Hickey defeated OSU's Yawna Allen, 6-2, 6-3. Alyssa Palen was on the right track, trying to win her fourth consecutive Big 12 singles match, winning the first set, 6-4, over OSU's Lauren Simmons, but couldn't hold on as she dropped the final two sets, 6-2, 6-1. Danielle Uscinski also took the first set in a tiebreaker from Marta Tsivka, but dropped the final two sets, leaving the Cyclones without a win in the singles matches.

Before the match got underway, the Cyclones recognized and honored their three seniors for all of their accomplishments throughout their four-year careers at ISU. The three seniors that were recognized were, Jill Palen, Eve Soriano, and Uscinski.

The Cyclones will return to the courts April 14, as they travel to Columbia, Mo., to face off against Missouri at 1 p.m. Iowa State's sophomore Kara Hickey, a Columbia, Mo., native, will return to her hometown to play in front of family and friends.
