AMES, Iowa -- Defending NCAA Division I wrestling runner-up Iowa State will play host to Iowa Dec. 9 in Ames, and battle Oregon State and Wisconsin in Hilton Coliseum before closing out the 2007-08 wrestling dual season with Big 12 rivals Missouri and Nebraska, head coach Cael Sanderson announced Wednesday. The Cyclones will also compete in the Midlands Championships, Dec. 29-30, in Evanston, Ill., looking to defend the team title they won last season. Iowa State will compete in the NWCA National Duals Jan. 12-13 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. ISU will seek to defend its Big 12 title at the league wrestling championships March 8, in Norman, Okla. "We wanted to wrestle as many good teams as possible and we are obviously doing that," Sanderson said. "We added Oregon State, which is on the rise and Wisconsin, which had a good year last season and is a logical geographic opponent. Our fans will get their money's worth, that is for sure."
Iowa State opens the home season against Northern Illinois in Hilton Coliseum on Nov. 8. ISU will then host the Cyclone Open Nov. 10, in the Lied Recreation-Athletics Facility. ISU will play host to Iowa Dec. 9, in Hilton Coliseum. The Hawkeyes were eighth at last year's NCAA Championship. The Cyclones close out the home season with duals against Missouri on Feb. 17 and Nebraska on Feb. 24. Missouri placed third at the NCAA Championships last March.
