“Offensively, we're doing a good job of creating a lot of opportunities and putting them away,” said ISU head coach Rebecca Hornbacher. “Our defense is also playing very well. We did a good job of taking care of the ball in these (windy) conditions. It was sloppy at times and we know we have to come out and get better for next weekend. We're looking forward to playing next weekend and taking the confidence we've gained into those games.”
Reid put ISU on top in the 15th minute, drilling a shot from top of the 18-yard box past the outstretched arms of OU goalkeeper Tara Macdonald and into the upper right corner. Erin Witte and Waddell were credited with assists on the play. The goal is Reid's fourth of the season and her second of the weekend.
“Elise had a great shot,” said Hornbacher. “She looked for her shot and put it away. It was great to get the lead early.”
The Cyclones again wasted little time getting on the board in the second half. Gleason, the ISU goalkeeper, used a 25-mile-per-hour wind to punt the ball from the ISU 18-yard box into the OU box on one bounce. Waddell beat the on-coming Macdonald 15 yards out and chipped it over the OU goalkeeper. Gleason earned her first collegiate assist on the play.
“Ann had a great look for Brittanie,” said Hornbacher. “She had the wind and took advantage of it. Brittanie did a great job of putting in the extra effort at the end to put it in the back of the net. It looked like a sure collision, but her effort was the difference.”
