AMES, Iowa- Iowa State swam to first-place finishes in every event to cruise to a 185-106 win over St. Olaf on Friday night at the Beyer Pool. The Cyclone swimmers wrapped up the meet after the 12th event and swam exhibition the remainder of the evening.
Lindsay Wiesner captured first in three events and Lindsey Behrens swam to a lifetime best in the 100 breast.
“Our goal was to swim fast and be prepared to stand up and race against Missouri tomorrow,” Iowa State head coach Duane Sorenson said. “Lindsay Wiesner won all three of her events for the first time as a Cyclone and as a senior that is pretty awesome.”
Wiesner took first in the 100 free (55.50), 200 free (2:01.08) and swam the lead leg on the first-place 200 free relay (1:41.25) team which included Lindsey Frodyma, Kalyn Amundsen and Marni Benson..
Behrens' lifetime best came in the 100 breast as she secured first place with a 1:07.51. She also touched the wall first in the 200 breast (2:29.20) and led off for the Cyclones on their first-place 200 medley relay (1:52.78) team. Jessica Schweich, Lindsay Wegner and Amy Bauer teamed with Behrens for the first place finish.
Continuing the wave of success was freshman Jenny Vondenkamp, who grabbed first in the 100 backstroke with a season best of 1:00.89 and the 200 backstroke (2:08.72). Abby Glaser and Marni Benson took first in the 200 fly (2:10.92) and 50 free (24.82), respectively. Rounding the first-place finishes was Amundsen in the 500 free, who swam a 5:16.87 to finish just ahead of fellow freshmen Jackie Itzen (5:16.87). Amundsen also had a first-place finish in the 1000 free (10:41.43).
On the boards, Tien Tran and Kali Fryklund took first and second place in the one and three-meter dive, respectively. Tran finished the 1-meter dive with a career best of 273.15, which ranks eighth in school history. This marks the fifth time this season that Tran has taken first in the 1-meter dive. Tran wrapped up the diving sweep with a 298.43 in the 3-meter.
Fryklund finished behind only Tran in both events, scoring a 255.08 in the 1-meter and a 257.78 on the 3-meter board.
Abby Christensen finished with a personal-best 216.67 in the 3-meter and Justine Anders' 184.27 in the 1-meter was also a career-best.
“I thought we dove really well tonight,” diving coach Jeff Warrick said. “Tien dove well in both events and finished just short of her personal best in the 1-meter.”
The Cyclones will compete against Big 12 foe Missouri Saturday at noon.
