IOWA CITY, Iowa – Iowa State closed out the Hawkeye Invitational with a solid group of final swims and platform diving performances on the final day of competition, highlighted by multiple point-scoring swims and dives. The Cyclones finished the meet in eighth place with 703 points.
"Last year, we scored just 355 points, and this year we are at 703, so we're doing a really good job with that," said head coach Matt Leach. "I just want to raise everyone's level. To be able to help to help contribute, not only here at dual meets but also at the Big 12s. So we're excited to see what the future holds, but we've got some more work to do."
How It Happened
Iowa State opened the final session with the 1650 freestyle, where Corinne Guist, Carlotta Gazzola and Miray Abay each delivered steady swims to secure early points for the Cyclones on the final night.
The Cyclones followed with strong performances in the 200 backstroke, as Emma Kuhn and Lili Neisser both represented Iowa State in the finals. Neisser continued her consistent weekend of backstroke racing, while Kuhn added another scoring swim to finish the event.
In the 100 freestyle, freshman Piper Hagen added another finals appearance, continuing her strong multi-event performance throughout the meet.
The 200 breaststroke marked one of Iowa State's biggest events of the evening with four Cyclones in finals. Abbi Crum, Matilde Geromin, Anja Peck and Grace Swoboda all competed, giving ISU a deep breaststroke showing to close the weekend.
The Cyclones also produced a strong group in the 200 butterfly, where Keirlyn Mullica, Kendall Mallers and Miray Abay scored valuable points for the Cyclones in their final individual swims of the meet.
