CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. ? Rachel Zabriskie just keeps on defying the odds. The freshman pitcher threw her third no-hitter in four career starts to lead Iowa State to an 8-0 win over Chattanooga (6-7) on Friday night at the Chattanooga Challenge.
Zabriskie (4-1) struck out eight and walked just one en route to her record-setting performance. The Austin, Texas native now holds the school record for career no-hitters. She allowed just a first inning walk to Lauren Flores but got out of the inning unscathed by striking out the next two batters.
The Cyclones (8-1) scored four runs in the third on a two-run single by Alex Johnson and a two-run homer by Ariel Coburn. The homer was Coburn's second of the season.
Iowa State would tack on another in the fourth as Sydni Jones beat out a hit to shortstop to score Amanda Bradberry, who reached on an error by the centerfielder to lead off the inning.
Jones and Jacquelyn Beatty added RBI in the fifth as the Cyclones were able to wrap the game up in five innings and improve to 8-1 on the season.
Johnson finished 2-for-3 to lead ISU while five other Cyclones collected hits in the game.
The Cyclones will play Lipscomb (11 a.m.) and Akron (3:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
