HOUSTON, Texas- The final day of the NCAA Zone D Championships concluded with Iowa State sophomore Tien Tran capturing a sixth-place finish in the platform dive, earning a score of 445.40.
This is the second trip into the top-10 for Tran. On Saturday, the Greenwood, Ind., native took ninth in the 3-meter dive (544.45) and was a close 11th in the 1-meter during Friday's action.
Tran's performance this year bests her first zone diving appearance in which she took 11th in the 3-meter and ninth in both the platform and 1-meter dives.
Junior Kali Fryklund was just outside of the top-10, taking 11th by four points (398.95) to the University of Arkansas's Madison Palmer.
“I was really happy with their performances, they came ready to compete right from day one,” said diving coach Jeff Warrick. “This was probably one of the best showings we've ever had at a zone meet.”
Although Tran managed to take sixth in the platform dive, neither she nor Fryklund qualified for the NCAA Championships, as only the top-eight divers overall move on.
