AMES, Iowa ? The Iowa State tennis team travels to Texas for two Big 12 matches this weekend. On Friday, the Cyclones will take on the 17th-rated Texas Longhorns at 1:30 p.m. at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center. Sunday, the Cyclones are set to face off with the 32nd-rated Texas A&M Aggies at 12 p.m. at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
Iowa State enters the match with a mark of 4-6 (0-3, Big 12). The Cyclones' last time out was against the Dartmouth in Fort Myers, Fla. The Cyclones lost the match, 6-1. Senior captain Caitlin Loprinzi tallied Iowa State's lone victory over the 51st-ranked Big Green squad. Loprinzi is 8-2 on the season, including a 6-0 mark from the No. 4 singles position.
Texas is 8-4 (2-0, Big 12) on the season. The Longhorns are coming off a 5-2 loss to No. 1 Northwestern on Tuesday. Texas' Vanja Corovic pulled off the upset of their third-rated singles player, Maria Mosolova. The Longhorns have tallied victories over No. 46 Sacramento State, No. 16 Fresno State, No. 24 William & Mary, No. 55 Rice and No. 22 TCU. Texas' Stephanie Davison was named last week's Big 12 women's tennis player of the week.
Texas A&M is 8-5 (2-0, Big 12). The Aggies last match came against Notre Dame on March 22. The 19th-ranked Fighting Irish defeated Texas A&M, 4-3. The Aggies are led by Elze Potgieter, ranked 76th nationally in singles.
