AMES, Iowa ? The Iowa State tennis team will face fifth-seeded Kansas in the first round of the 2008 Big 12 Tennis Championships, the league announced Tuesday. The Cyclones will face the Jayhawks at 10 a.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
Iowa State enters the Big 12 Championships with a 4-14 overall record. ISU finished the regular season winless in the Big 12 Conference. Senior Caitlin Loprinzi, a native of Rochester, Minn., leads the Cyclones this season in singles victories with eight.
The Jayhawks are 9-12 this season and finished 5-6 in the conference. They are led by Elizaveta Avdeeva, a senior from Obninsk, Russia. Avdeeva became Kansas' all-time leader in Big 12 doubles victories on Sunday, teaming with Edina Horvath to defeat ISU's Kara Hickey and Chrissy Derouin. Kansas defeated Iowa State, 7-0, last Sunday in the final match of the regular season.
The winner of Thursday's match will go on to face the Colorado Buffaloes at noon on Friday.
