AMES, Iowa- Following her record-setting performance in the 10k on Saturday, the Big 12 Conference announced Lisa Koll as their Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.
Koll, a four-time All-American, snapped the three-year old female American Collegiate record in the 10,000-meter run at the Stanford Invitational last weekend. The Fort Dodge native cruised to a first-place finish in 32:11.13, surpassing the old record of 32:19.97 set in 2004 by Alicia Craig of Stanford.
The reigning 5,000-meter conference champion also shattered the old school record of 32:50.79 set by Bonnie Sons in 1984. The time also leads the nation by over a minute and a half. Emily Harrison of Virginia holds the second-fastest time in the country of 33:40.34.
Saturday marked Koll's first competition of the outdoor season, and continued her dominance from the indoor campaign. Koll earned All-America honors in the 5,000-meter run, the Big 12 title in the 5k and school records in the 5,000- and 3,000-meters.
Koll will rest this weekend while the rest of the Iowa State track and field squad splits. The distance runners will head to the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines, Iowa, while the sprinters travel to Tempe, Ariz. for the Sun Angel Invitational.
