IRVING, Texas--Iowa State senior golfer Chris Baker was voted first-team all-Big 12 by the league's head coaches, announced today by the Big 12 office. A native of Brownstown, Ind., Baker joins Oklahoma State's Rickie Fowler, the nation's No. 1 player and Big 12 champion, and Texas' Charlie Holland, who is ranked 30th nationally, as unanimous selections.
Baker, who is ranked 61st nationally in the latest Golfweek rankings, is capping off an incredible career with the Cyclones. He is on pace to shatter ISU's single-season stroke average record (71.46), an 11-year mark currently held by current Asian Tour player Jason Knutzon (72.71, 1996-97). Baker has finished in the top-10 in nine of 13 tournaments this season.
A 2005 Big 12 all-tournament team member, Baker is the first Cyclone to earn first-team all-league honors since Matt Lewis in 1998. Baker is expected to earn an individual spot to one of the three NCAA men's golf regional competitions. Selections will be determined on Monday (May 5).
