COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Iowa State swimming and diving team kicked off the Big 12 Championships Wednesday from the Mizzou Aquatic Center with a record-setting performance in the 200 medley relay. After the first two events the Cyclones sit in fifth place with 54 points. Texas leads the competition with 80 points.
The 200 medley relay team of Lindsay Wegner, Jeli Nixt, Abby Glaser and Frances Calzada finished fifth with a school-record and NCAA ?B' cut time of 1:41.14. The team broke the previous school record by over a second and a half.

In the 800 freestyle relay, the team of Lindsey Behrens, Jenny Vondenkamp, Calzada and Chelsea Tomek swam to the fourth-fastest time in school history with a time of 7:26.50. Behrens' leadoff leg of 1:49.81 ranks as the second-fastest 200 freestyle in school history.
“It was great to see Behrens put one together,” said Sorenson. “It was great to see her break 1:50 and be the second fastest in Iowa State history.
Competition resumes tomorrow for the swimmers at 10 a.m. for preliminaries. 1-meter diving preliminaries follow at 1 p.m. and finals take place at 6 p.m.
