Big 12 Championship History
? Nebraska carries the all-time lead in Big 12 Championship history with eight victories. The Cornhuskers' most recent win came in 2007. Iowa State and Oklahoma both have won two apiece. The Sooners pulled level with the Cyclones at last season's competition.
2008 Big 12 Nail Biter
? The Cyclones led the 2008 Big 12 Championships until the last competitor of the meet. Oklahoma's Kiara Redmond-Sturms' (the 2008 conference gymnast of the year) 9.950 vault gave the Sooners the title by .1 of a point over ISU.
Last Time Out
? The No. 21 Iowa State gymnastics team attempted to overcome a one-point deficit in the final rotation, but came up .025 of a point short in Hilton Coliseum. The Cyclones tied their season high (49.225) on floor in the final rotation and put together a near-historic performance on bars, but fell to No. 20 West Virginia, 194.925-194.900.
Cyclones Have a Stellar Floor-Closing Trio
? Junior Katie Sweetin, freshman Michelle Browning and senior Jasmine Thompson has proven to be a high-scoring trio that closes out the Cyclone floor rotation. Thompson, who competes sixth on the floor for ISU, consistently puts up big scores for the Cyclones and is tied for 20th on the event in the country. Browning, who competes fifth on the floor for ISU, has scored 9.875, 9.900, 9.900 and 9.850, respectively, in her past four meets. Sweetin, who competes fourth, has scored a 9.850 on floor in three of her past four meets.
Nationally Ranked on Three Events
? The Cyclones stand among the nation's elite in three events. Iowa State is 16th on bars with a regional-qualifying score of 48.950, tied for 22nd on beam (48.795) and
is 22nd on floor (48.990).
Top-25 Gauntlet
? The Cyclones have faced a schedule filled with top-25 squads this season. Iowa State has met No. 25 Iowa, No. 20 West Virginia, No. 18 Minnesota, No. 16 Michigan, No. 13 Missouri, No. 12 Nebraska, No. 10 Oklahoma and No. 6 Auburn so far this season. The Big 12 Championship will be no different, as all three of Iowa State's foes are ranked in the top 13.
Barnes Returns in Fine Form
? After a four-meet layoff due to injury, junior Megan Barnes returned to Iowa State's vault and bars lineup against West Virginia. Barnes made her presence felt, notching a career high on bars (9.850) and led the Cyclones on vault with a 9.775.
Beauty and the Beast, a Record-Breaking Night
? The Beauty and Beast meet on Feb. 20 drew a crowd of 7,224 that eclipsed the previous Cyclone attendance mark of 3,429 set Jan. 19, 2007 against Nebraska. The previous high also marked the Hilton Coliseum debut for ISU coach Jay Ronayne.
Maccani Receives Big 12 Accolades
? Senior Ceilia Maccani won the balance beam title at Michigan with a career-high 9.850, while also scoring a season-best 9.750 on vault and a 9.750 on bars. The Racine, Wis. native's performance earned her a share of the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week with Oklahoma's Melanie Root. It marks the first time the ISU three-event specialist received a weekly Big 12 honor. The event specialist honor goes to the top non-all-around gymnast in the Big 12 each week.
12 Straight Regionals
? Iowa State will look to advance to its 13th consecutive regional competition in 2009. An inspired second-place showing at the 2008 Big 12 Championship, cemented the Cyclones' trip to the Northeast Regional meet at State College, Penn., last season.
ISU Ninth in Average Home Attendance in 2008
? ISU closed out last season with the ninth highest home average attendance at 2,590. The Cyclones' figure was tops in the Big 12 with Missouri closest at 11th (2,267).
