HUTCHINSON, Kan. - The Iowa State men's golf team carded a final round of 301 and fell to 12th place on the final day of the Big 12 Championships in Hutchinson, Kan. Sophomore Nathan Leary placed in a tie for 29th to lead ISU. Leary fired a 76 over the last 18 holes to bring his four-round total to 301.
Oklahoma State pulled away from underdog Colorado to take the Big 12 title and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals. After leading the Buffaloes by only three strokes after day two, the Cowboys increased their lead throughout the day and finished 14 strokes ahead. Oklahoma State also claimed medalist honors with Morgan Hoffmann beating out Baylor's Bill Allcorn by three strokes.
ISU's Ben Herrera and Nate McCoy carded their best rounds of the tournament, shooting 72 and 76, respectively. Michael Wuertz and Tom Lathrop also competed for ISU.
Iowa State will return all golfers to its team next season.
