Young Cyclones Win Five Titles at Kaye Young Open

MASON CITY, Iowa ? The youthful Iowa State wrestling team racked up five titles at the 2010 Kaye Young Open at NIACC.
True freshman Ryak Finch ran through the competition on his way to the 125-pound title. Finch defeated fellow teammate Patrick Hunter by injury default in the finals match.
Freshman Brandon Jones also did well in the 125-pound weight class with a fourth-place finish, and Brandon Moody and R.J. Hallman did not place.
Luke Goettl continued to look good with a perfect 3-0 record on his way to a 9-7 victory over Weston Mettellus from Ellsworth Community College in the 141-pound title match.
Cyclone Joe Cozart did not place at 149 pounds.
Nik Pappas, a freshman at 165-pounds, fell to NIACC's Isaiah Tatum in the final match to earn a second-place finish.
Two Cyclone true freshmen battled it out in the finals of the 174-pound weight class. Mike England came out on top against Quinn Wilson to end a great tournament for both wrestlers.
Matt Riley won a very tight finals match in the 184-pound weight class over Michael Johnson from Lincoln College by a score of 5-4.
Tyler Christensen also wrestled very well, earning a third-place finish at 184 pounds.
For the third time in the tournament, two Iowa State wrestlers met in the finals of a weight class. Phil Hawes outlasted Trevor Voelker 6-2 to claim his first tournament title as a Cyclone at 197 pounds.
