Cyclones Earn 15 Personal Bests at Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Iowa State track and field team earned 15 personal bests at the Arkansas Twilight Invitational Friday. Competition for the Cyclones was highlighted by sophomore Kianna Elahi, who earned a first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles. The Omaha native finished with a time of 58.31, a personal best. Freshman Donnise Powell finished fifth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.46, also a personal best.

Senior Jenna Caffrey placed second in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 13.97. Junior Myranda Casterline followed, finishing sixth in 14.53.

Junior Elphas Sang took fourth in the 800-meter run. Sang, finished with a time of 1:50.22, a personal best. Juniors Michael Alexander, David Lantz, and Brek Minarik competed alongside Sang, and all finished with personal best times.

In the hammer throw, sophomore Zach Richards earned a third-place finish, throwing a final distance of 190-80 feet. Junior Josh Koglin followed, throwing 187-30 and finishing fourth behind Richards. Sophomore Mike Zika also earned third place for the Cyclones in the discus (168-60).

Sophomore Mallory Henderson placed third in the javelin, throwing 122-10.

Select members of the ISU track and field team will compete tomorrow in the Payton Jordan Invitational, in Palo Alto, Calif. Among those to see action is nine-time All-American Lisa Koll, who is set to compete in the 5,000-meter run. Results will be posted on cyclones.com after the conclusion of the meet.
